The Fix is In… Again

In swing-state Colorado, the Republican Secretary of State conducted the biggest purge of voters in history, dumping a fifth of all registrations. Guess their color. In swing-state Florida, the state is refusing to accept about 85,000 new registrations from voter drives – overwhelming Black voters.
In swing state New Mexico, HALF of the Democrats of Mora, a dirt poor and overwhelmingly Hispanic county, found their registrations disappeared this year, courtesy of a Republican voting contractor.
In swing states Ohio and Nevada, new federal law is knocking out tens of thousands of voters who lost their homes to foreclosure.
My investigations partner spoke directly to Barack Obama about it. (When your partner is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., candidates take your phone call.) The cool, cool Senator Obama told Kennedy he was "concerned" about the integrity of the vote in the Southwest in particular.
He's concerned. I'm sweating.

Just as relevant today…

It's amazing how people, all people, bend our will to authority.

This video explains the 29% who still support President Bush.

For all his protesting, for all his complaints and objections, for all his bad feelings, he still keeps pushing the button.

Bush/McCain Recession

More wise-ass wisdom from John Cole:

This is not just a recession. This is the BUSH recession. This is the REPUBLICAN RECESSION OF 2008. This is the BUSH/MCCAIN RECESSION. Say it loud. Say it often. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

John McCain’s policies will continue the BUSH/MCCAIN RECESSION. John McCain’s financial adviser thinks you are a whiner for experiencing tough times in the BUSH/MCCAIN RECESSION. Your retirement fund is going in the shitter because of the BUSH/MCCAIN recession. You will not be able to pay for college for your kid because of the BUSH/MCCAIN recession.

Thanks, John. Good idea.

That iPod singer on Seasme Street

Canadian singer Feist is set to appear on the 39th season premiere of Sesame Street on August 11th. She'll sing this song which most people know as the iPod Nano commercial.

I really dig this chick's voice.

Boycott the 2010 Census

Looks like the 2010 Census will be officially disappearing gay marriage data.

The U.S. Census Bureau, reacting to the federal Defense of Marriage Act and other mandates, plans to edit the 2010 census responses of same-sex couples who marry legally in California, Massachusetts or any other state. They will be reported as "unmarried partners," rather than married spouses, in census tabulations – a policy that will likely draw the ire of gay rights groups.

If the Census Bureau is not going to count gay marriages in the 2010 Census, I will be boycotting the 2010 Census entirely. I don't see any reason to perpetuate the agency's compilation of false, inaccurate data.
